Good Readers use strategies to help them read.
When I get to a tricky spot I can....
*look closely at the picture.
*notice a pattern.
*get my mouth ready to make the first sound and check the picture.
*s t r e t c h it-say each sound from the beginning of the word all the way to the end.
*chunk it- look for smaller words hiding inside.
*skip it -read the rest of the sentence and go back to reread.
*think of a rhyming word that I do know.
*reread and ask myself:
Does it look right? Does it sound right? Does it make sense?
